Regional seminar on the role of youth and women in the activation and development of collective bargaining

With the aim of establishing a global and multilateral social dialogue, and as a follow-up to the work of the first regional seminar on the role of youth and women in the activation and development of collective bargaining held in Beirut on March 30 and 31, 2022, a second meeting was organized for representatives of social partners of women and youth from the six countries targeted by the SOLiD project in the city of Oran-Algeria on September 13 and 14, 2022.

This activity was an opportunity to continue the discussion on the challenges faced by youth and women especially after the pandemic of COVID-19 and the multiplicity of tracks and topics of collective bargaining. Among the most important results of this seminar, the regional charter for the institutionalization of social dialogue in the southern Mediterranean countries which takes into account the gender perspective. In this charter, the most important demands of the social partners were stipulated: a new social contract anchored in the gender equality agenda, the construction of a care economy, the demand for the elimination of gender-based violence and harassment in the world of work, the development of social protection systems, and equitable access to skills development, training and learning for all.

Many points and ideas that will be formulated later in another charter were also discussed, addressing the most important demands of the social partners regarding the role of young people in the social dialogue process and the importance of developing comprehensive strategies to ensure their representation in decision-making centres and in all collective bargaining.
